New Groove

My in laws have been staying since Christmas evening, which doesn't leave much time for posting. I've been sick with a stomach bug since Wednesday evening, but think the end is in sight; an entire bottle of Pepto and one raw asshole later. But anyway. Christmas was a grand celebration, packed with tons of great surprises. Some diamonds, some sapphires, some blue topaz, some Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses, Dooney & Bourke handbag and wallet, some Burberry and Romance perfumes, and more Colts wear than you can imagine. And last but not least, some Apple iPhone. Luke wishes he had our camera ready when I opened the iPhone. Apparently, I was rather shocked and excited. Never imagined it...having just gotten the BlackBerry in May. He went into AT&T one day and immediately fell in love with the iPhone. He swooped it up for me, though I had only asked for an iPOD to play my music in my car. He bought the adapter thingy that hooks the iPhone to my car radio and SHA BAM, I have all of my iTunes in my car! It's a fabulous thing, really. Almost scary.
The boys have been crazy over their air hockey table and Wii games. Haven't seen them much since Tuesday other than to eat or take a shower. They've been so good, and they were both ecstatic with their Christmas. Mom made them rotten, as always, and I am once again lugging their stockpiles up to their playroom. Thank God for the new space, is all I can really say.
Luke was happy with what I got for him. I thought I had really done well UNTIL I opened all 324254324 of his gifts! All I asked for was a Colts sweatshirt, an iPod, and some sunglasses that didn't come from Target and cost $12.99; I already have ten pairs of those! He is the most amazing shopper I have ever seen in a man. He's a maniac. I got him an autographed Boston Red Sox helmet signed by Mike Lowell, with an additional inscription of his '07 World Series MVP. It's beautiful! Some more Boston memorabilia for the basement, an authentic T.O. Thanksgiving jersey that he asked for, some sweaters and shirts, some things for his truck, some cologne, and some new wireless Bose outdoor speakers to go with the Lifestyle system we recently put in our family room. Good right? Looked like a massive pile of shit compared to mine. Blah.
Mom stayed with us Christmas Eve and opened her gifts with us Christmas morning. I was able to find her a few things other than those she already knew about, and her favorite surprise was a new Dyson vacuum we got for her. She only has the 1942 Rainbow vacuum from when I was a kid, and it is such a major pain in the ass to get ready and to use. This way, she can roll the Dyson out of a closet and within thirty seconds be cleaning up any little mess that would have otherwise had to wait until she was ready to clean the entire house from lugging out that enormous Rainbow. It came to me when I was under her Christmas tree, cleaning up the needles with the Dust Buster after we decorated it. What a pain in the ass. The upright would have been SO much easier, and effective.
A Merry Christmas to all, indeed.
No big plans for New Year's. Staying in, and possibly having some friends over. Nothing is definite, but I do know that I don't want to go out this year. I told Mom to come out and ring in the new year with us and the boys, but I think she will more than likely go out with her usual group of friends. They will all vacation together over the summers, and are planning to leave us again in January to head back to Punta Cana. Assholes. I'm glad she continues to do these things, though. She was hesitant through the first rounds of outings without Arty, but having a few of them under her belt, I believe each time gets a little easier. She tells me it's still hard, but at least she's going. The first time we took her back to Myrtle Beach was the hardest for all of us, but we were there to do it together. Her trips "abroad" were always taken with this same group of friends, and while I can't be there to help her through, I know that they will be there with her every step of the way. They're all like family too, and love her very dearly. My wish is that they have a beautiful vacation.
Time to guzzle a bit more Pepto and take a soak in the jacuzzi. I'm feeling better today, but still not normal. Sort of a hung over bubbly tummy feeling, weak and woozy. Some applesauce and Saltines are on the morning menu, with a side of Ginger Ale. I know you are all terribly envious. With fingers crossed that our boys stay well.
This month wraps up my fifth year of blogging here at The Beatys. I can't believe that five years has passed so quickly. One day, I'll take the time to print out everything I have here and bind it into a book for the kids and me. But in the meantime, Happy New Year to you all, if I don't make it back before 2008. |

So I just made our dental appointments with a new dentist; a dentist who works within our insurance network. I was finally tired of schlepping out hundreds upon hundreds of dollars for our dental cleanings for our current out of network office, and have instead canceled our January appointments and rescheduled with an in network office.
When canceling our appointments, the receptionist asked if there were any way that I could still honor that appointment, given that an entire hour had been assigned for me and the boys. Well, no. On my reminder cards it states clearly that a 48 hour cancellation notice is required; I'm giving you 336 hours notice, thank you very much. I explained to her that not only did I need to cancel our appointments, but that I also needed to have a copy of our records sent out to our new, fancy schmancy in network dentist who won't charge me over $500 for one adult and two child cleanings. She immediately asked me hold.
After about three minutes of hold time, a different lady comes back on to ask me why we were leaving. I explained to her the whole in and out of network blah blah you're ripping me off scenario. Then, she proceeds to tell me that we can't compare apples to oranges. That any dentists that are participating will not spend as much time and give the proper amount of care to each of their patients. That any dentists that are participating won't use the same materials on your teeth and that these materials will only last five years, versus the fifteen to twenty year lifespan on the materials that they use. The reason being is that insurance companies feel that you will more than likely change jobs within that five years, and more than likely change insurance providers in the process, thus when your teeth start to fall out after five years, it's not their problem. In short, she may have well stated that our overall dental visits will just plain suck if I don't spend my children's college savings on their cleanings. That, and that we will have no teeth by the time we are forty.
After her six minute plea, she concluded with a very confident, "Now, that being said, do you still want to cancel your appointments?"
Uhm, YES. |

Um..Throwing my knowledge of 10 yrs in the medical billing field in here...BS! She just knows your faithful payers and they get pd for people who come out of ntwk better than those who come in ntwk bc they have a contract of what they have to allow for in ntwk payers with that insurance company. I bet if you tell the new dentist what they said he'd be a lil peeved. Sure dif dentists do things dif ways (I learned hard way..my dentist doesnt do the ugly filling only the clear ones..my insurance doesnt cover and I was in ntwk=had to pay for it) Dental is way dif than medical, I just highly recommend you find out what your coverage covereds fully before goin to any dentist..but either way you'll be paying less than if you were goin to the out of ntwk doc.

It Continues
|
| After several days struggling with browser errors, Luke phoned Dell last night. $200 and two hours later, the problems remain. In addition, I have been eager to post some new photos of the boys, as well as Jake's moment atop Santa's lap. All picture uploads have been halted due to an FTP error telling me that my disk quota has been exceeded. Nonsense. I deleted each and every image I had uploaded for the All Star website as it is currently being redone. I deleted each and every image that had previously been uploaded for the Beaty website, any and all labels that had been saved, and any other useless crap that was bogging it down. With absolutely nothing to speak of in those folders, still, my disk quota has been exceeded. I don't like not being able to share pictures with you - it gives us something to talk about. One day? My shit won't be broken. |

Buy a new one...that's my fix to every problem.
I don't know what would cause that to happen.

Is It Normal?
|
| That I can spew out a phone number, a social security number, a federal identification number, an account number, or a birthdate on command? Seriously, I frighten myself sometimes. I mean, I couldn't tell you what I did last Tuesday, but ask me for a numerical sequence of ten or more numbers, and I'm your girl. |

Holiday Fuzzies
|
These are a few of my favorite things...
Going out to lunch with two of my dearest friends.
Overhearing my husband singing Christmas carols with the boys.
Christmas shopping and wrapping the gifts.
All of our decorations illuminated and candles lit.
Christmas cards in the mail!
Holiday movies with Luke and the boys.
Taking our holiday portraits.
Our annual visit and photo session with Santa.
